Fly Gurlz 2009

Camps

The sport of mountain biking is enjoyed by women of all ages and athletic abilities. We teach all levels, from beginners and first timers to intermediate and advanced riders.

When we ask, "Is there something specific that you want from today?", the most frequent response is "I want more confidence!".

Confidence comes with a thorough understanding of mountain biking technique. In the morning, we break down riding skills into basic, achievable components. Each part is described and demonstrated, then everyone participates in drills and exercises to practice. With a rider to instructor ratio of 6:1, we are able to ensure immediate feedback and guidance. There is a steady progression of ability as one technique builds upon another.

In the afternoon, we hit the trails so everyone can solidify their new skills in a "real world" scenario.

Topics covered include: bike fit and riding position, mount, dismount, pedal stroke, gear changes and shifting, braking, carrying the bike, wide turns, small corners, climbing, descending, and small obstacles. Intermediate and advanced groups cover the same topics at a higher level of difficulty and add larger obstacles, rock gardens, steep and technical climbing and descending, front and back wheel lift.

Everyone finishes the day with the skills and information they need to make their mountain biking experiences more exciting and enjoyable. And they can't wait to hit the trails at home!
